Hello, and a big welcome to my portal. I would like to share my goals here with you. As a provider I have been helping families having someone suffering from ALZHEIMER's/Dementia related behaviors. Memory loss causes significant anxiety, behaviors, anger, aggression toward the family, insomnia, sun downing (confusion in late afternoon), eating problems, and wondering. Most adults and late adults already suffer from chronic medical conditions which complicates mental health when psychiatric medications are involved. I strive for affordable, excellent care to keep patients at home with their loved ones and avoiding nursing home placement for as long as possible.
I also have a special research interest in BINGE EATING DISORDER. Central Nervous System (CNS) stimulants treats the underlying DOPAMINE deficiency theory. Low dopamine levels in the brain's reward center have been shown by evidence-based research studies to cause excessive overeating within one to two hours. This large food intake can be as 3000-5000 calories and still looking for more food to eat. This recurrent pattern causes marked distress even depression. The disorder makes people feel uncomfortable full when eating rapid and large amount in one meal when physically not hungry. After the binge eating, patients become angry, disgusted with oneself, and embarrassed. Untreated binge eating cannot let anyone lose weight, become obese and on the verge of developing type 2 diabetes. This form of eating disorder can be easily missed and thinking “I am just eating more than other people do”. Binge eating disorder is often comorbid with ADHD, anxiety, and depression, and careful assessment and treatment is required to reverse this condition. The good news is that stimulant medications are available which begins to work in day one.
Anxiety disorders with their severity can be debilitating for anyone. Panic attack is the most severe form resembling to having a heart attack or dying. Physical manifestations are:
· Palpitations
· Pounding heart
· Sweating
· Shaking
· Short of breath
· Feeling of choking
· Chest pain
· Chills
· Numbness
· Fear of going crazy or loosing control
· Fear of dying
Each attack comes on out of the blue, and it can happen multiple times a day. Emergency Room (ER) visits become expensive, frequent due to fear of dying from a heart attack. Most of the time the ER providers will send patient back home with a referral for their primary care provider after receiving a short acting anti-anxiety medication with no refills. Anxieties can be very incapacitating causing self-isolation, social and occupational disfunction with sometimes irreversible consequences.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) very common in children and most often continues in adult hood. Appropriate self and online testing can confirm the diagnosis when symptoms are vague and resembling to mood disorders.
- · Behavioral symptoms of aggression, fidgeting, hyperactivity, impulsivity, irritability, lack of restraints or self-control.
- · Cognitive symptoms of absent-mindedness, difficulties with focusing, forgetfulness, cannot pay attention, having short attention span.
- · Mood symptoms of anger, anxiety, boredom, mood swings, excitement.
- I hope you find this information helpful and I am happy to answer any concerns or questions.
