Are you feeling overwhelmed, tense, or struggling with anxiety or depressive issues? Is distress from uncertainty, worries, irritability, panic, avoidances, negativity, or exhaustion wearing you down? If these issues are interferring with your social, family, or work life, then consider investing in yourself, getting a full mental health check-up. Indeed, a personalized, tailored treatment may be your best choice. While we don't offer warranties, if treatment works for you, it will be one of the best investments you ever make. And yet, too many people unnecessarily suffer with lingering issues due to wishful thinking, delays, avoidance, minimization, or partial improvements (getting better, though not completely well). The goal is to get completely well, where you're back to being your best self.
I offer 25+ years of experience, specializing in Anxiety and Depressive disorders, appreciating the uniqueness of clients’ life stories and strengths. I prefer brief, effective therapies that “work”, namely Evidence- and Measurement- based (measuring what one treasures) approaches. Treatment plans are individually tailored to the client’s preferences via shared decision making. Also, I have a strong pragmatic bent. Hence, I prefer Cognitive Behavioral Therapy strategies often combined with medication. Also, I weave in Metaphorical, Narrative, Personal Construct, "Silly-Con Valley", and Quality of Life therapies. Formerly, I was a faculty member and clinician-scientist at the Univ. of Texas Southwestern Medical School (Dallas, Tx.) x 13 yrs., doing basic molecular genetics and clinical research, treating clients, supervising residents and students, and teaching. I’ve also worked in an underserved community mental health clinic in Northern California. Finally, for 10+ years, I worked overseas as a Regional Psychiatrist in the US Dept. of State, posted sequentially x 2-3 yrs. in Ghana, India, Greece, and Austria, covering a surrounding region of countries, too. During this decade, I responded to and treated a full spectrum of issues, dealing variously with disasters / emergencies ( terrorist incidents, civil wars, frozen conflicts, epidemics, financial crises, coups, earthquakes, violent protests, etc.), sudden unexpected deaths, workplace morale issues, transition stress, interpersonal conflicts, anger issues, marital frayings, insomnia, demoralizations, parenting issues, student anxiety, anxiety disorders, depression, vocational choices, leadership / management concerns (Executive Coaching), PTSD, and substance misuse.
