Dr. David Volk
Clinical training and certification. David Volk, MD, PhD completed medical school at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and psychiatry residency training at Western Psychiatric Hospital. Dr. Volk is a licensed psychiatrist in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and maintains current board certification through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Clinical experience. Dr. Volk started Volk Psychiatry with his wife Christine Volk, PA-C (see below) in 2022 and serves as the supervising physician. He has worked as a psychiatrist in a psychiatric emergency room for over 14 years. In this setting, Dr. Volk gained expertise in treating a wide spectrum of psychiatric illness across a broad range of ages in patients who were in acute crisis.
Neuroscientist. Dr. Volk also has a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh where he studied alterations in brain chemistry and structure that underlie serious psychiatric illness, including depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed publications in top scientific journals, and some of these publications have been cited over a thousand times by other researchers. Dr. Volk has also published numerous book chapters in leading psychiatry and neuroscience textbooks and has given scientific lectures at prestigious academic centers including Harvard University and Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Volk’s decades-long expertise in studying psychiatric illness at the cellular and molecular level have lead to the development of his neuroscience-informed treatment practices in psychiatry.
Christine Volk, PA-C
Clinical training and certification. Christine Volk, PA-C is a graduate of Slippery Rock University and completed the Master of Physician Assistant Studies program at Chatham University. Christine is a licensed physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and maintains current certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician’s Assistants.
Clinical experience. Christine has 20 years of experience in outpatient clinical practice, including psychiatry, family practice, geriatrics, and pediatrics. In all of these settings, she has treated a wide variety of psychiatric illnesses across the lifespan. Her primary clinical interests include the treatment of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and stress responses to life changes and transitions. Christine provides medication management and supportive psychotherapy.
